"Throughout my career social dialogue has always remained a vital element in my work. It is the communication of ideas in the process of creation that is important to me. My creative work is “content driven” with visual elements and media chosen by what serves the project best.
For example: the responsive installation Prime Field, in Sangren Hall, Western Michigan University, uses words to prime students for learning.
The Random shelving system combines unexpected size & spacing variation. Telling time becomes a puzzle with the Half Hour clock. The Love Letters series uses mixed materials to form greetings often with deep emotional content.
With the artworks, Transition is a consideration of the influences & decisions that propel change from one state to another. Body of Water reflects the physical makeup of our bodies in relation to our environment. The performance I’m a Stranger combines poetry, dance movement, and video; and in Fruit Baskets puppeteers manipulate objects and trigger sounds accompanied by a humorous recording of radio personalities hawking gift fruit baskets.
At the same time, these creative works carry deeper meanings through visual metaphor, surprising juxtapositions, and humor. My attempt is to reach the pre-conscious mind where our ideas form, surfacing preconceptions for review and, perhaps, for change."
